Hotel Reaches Charity Target Early

The hotel pledged to raise £10,000 for the cancer charity over the following 12 months. Now, only a quarter of the way through the campaign, the hotel has already raised £5,000. The Connaught presented a cheque to the Dorset branch of Macmillan Cancer Support over the Christmas period.

The launch of the campaign took place at Best Western The Connaught Hotel in late September with a gala dinner and charity auction. Nearly £3,000 was raised at the event. The balance has been achieved from other activities and through the generosity of staff and guests who have been keen to support the charity. The Connaught will be holding an on-going programme of events in 2009 and undertaking other initiatives in order to raise much needed funds for Macmillan.
Speaking at the presentation David Miller, Managing Director at Best Western The Connaught Hotel, said, “The choice of charity was easy as Macmillan and cancer in general is a cause that is close to the hearts of many of us here at the hotel. As a thriving hotel and conference centre we thought we could do something worthwhile to try and help those in the local community who desperately need our support”. Commenting on the early success of the campaign he added, “Although we originally pledged to raise £10,000 over a year it looks as though we will reach this target much sooner. We won’t be stopping there though and now anticipate being able to give Cancer Macmillan Support a much bigger cheque in September!”

Only three months into a year long fund raising campaign and a Bournemouth hotel is already half way to reaching its target. Last September Best Western The Connaught Hotel announced Macmillan Cancer Support as its official charity for 2008/09.
